Former Miss United Kingdom & Now Model/Actress

Nicola Willoughby was what people referred to at the time as a traditional English Rose. Studying Health And Social Care at college to fulfill her ambition as a paramedic was what Nicola's life evolved around. It was, until a work placement was about to change all that in more ways than one.

Nicola's placement at the time was looking after the elderly as part of her college course, she enjoyed this kind of work and got a real sense of achievement from knowing she was helping others. Nicola also gave up her time on every other Saturday in the month to do voluntary work for Mencap organizing day trips out etc.

During this placement Nicola was chatting to one of the elderly residents who suggested she entered a beauty contest (Miss Take A Break). Nicola immediately said no "I can't possibly win anything like that". Unbeknown to Nicola a resident sent in pictures of her to the magazine, and it was not until Nicola was collecting her mail at home one morning she noticed a letter with the heading Take A Break Magazine on the front.

Nicola was bewildered at this and wondered what it was. She then discovered she was in one of the heats and had to attend a hotel in Nottingham.

The day of arrived and Nicola went off to Nottingham. Being nervous and seeing a number of attractive girls she thought she was not cut out for all this at all.

Having had her photo taken and having being interviewed by the judges Nicola went away thinking "not a chance".

Nicola had kept the whole thing quiet from her family and friends until she received a call from the Magazine saying she was in the final 10. Then another call saying she was in the final 5, and had to stay in London for 3 days where she and the other finalists were going to be judged throughout and then the winner will be crowned.

Nicola decided to tell her mother about this as soon as possible before it became public. Her mother was quite worried that she was going to skip college to do something like this, but Nicola went ahead regardless.

After that short stay in London, Nicola was crowned “Miss Take A Break” winning £500 and some beautiful flowers. Nicola thought wow! It was not until she was introduced to a man called Steven Morley that she thought what’s all this about. Steven said congratulations Nicola you now have to do the whole thing again, as you have an automatic entry into the Miss United Kingdom contest, and if you succeed, you then go onto the Miss World.

Nicola thought this can't be happening to me. She called her mother to explain and all her mother did was cry with excitement.

Nicola then went on to represent “Take A Break” in the Miss United Kingdom contest and won. She was ecstatic winning prize money of £30,000 and dresses to be designed for the Miss World contest as well as other fabulous prizes.

Nicola was on cloud 9 and could not take all this in. It seemed to go so quick. Nicola went on to represent the United Kingdom in Miss World in 1999. She was tipped to win that year with it being the millennium and not held in the UK for 10years.

Then tragedy struck. During her college years Nicola had done some topless pictures the kind you see in “The Sun” and this did not go down to well with the organizers. In spite of Nicola going through solicitors and paying out £2,500 for the copyright, the photographer involved still let the photos leek out to the press.

Due to this Nicola failed to make the top ten. But she still says it was one of the best experiences of her life. Watching it as a young girl and eventually taking part herself was a dream.

Nicola went on to become a very popular model and appeared on The Channel 4s Big Breakfast as a guest, she also featured on GMTV for numerous interviews. She also modeled for the shoe designer Jimmy Choo and the dress designer Eric Way. Nicola was soon signed to a model agency Boss Models, where she graced the catwalks and went to events and landed a lingerie contract Virgin Lingerie within the first 2 months of being there, Nicola was stunned to see herself on a huge poster in London’s Oxford Street modeling the lingerie.

She has also appeared on The Clothes Show Live as a co presenter and model and has also appeared in FHM with 5 page spreads each time on a couple of occasions and voted 54th sexiest female in the world polls.

Nicola has been working hard as ever doing editorial shoots. Although she has been out of the public eye for a while The British public do not forget a name. Nicola has since married and has been raising her two children Rhiley 6 and Dylan 2 to ensure they have a supportive, stable and loving upbringing. Nicola faces her toughest challenge though as her husband is soon to serve for 6months in Afghanistan. And as many others in the same situation as her, Nicola understands the difficulty and stress and worry this time brings, and Nicola wishes them all home safely.

Nicola has a number of new projects coming up and has signed to Celeb Agents in London where she has TV presenting coming up as well as acting in one of the major British soaps. She has also signed a contract with MYA (Make Yourself Amazing) cosmetic surgery company as the face and body, after having a breast enlargement with them.

Nicola is also doing work for a charity for Brain Tumors”. The charity is called Rent a Date for Charity, this is where people bid to take celebrities out on a date and all the proceeds go to charity. Nicola is looking forward to all this. She is also soon to take part in a feature film soon called “Goodnight Until Tomorrow” an ITV one off Drama.

Although for Nicola it has been a whirlwind of fame, she is very level headed and is extremely good fun to work with her feet firmly on the ground.
