Steven Saunders

Steven was born in Suffolk in 1961 and started his career at ‘The Savoy’ London in the seventies as a management trainee and chef. He earned his reputation as one of the countries leading chefs and patrons at the tender age of 19 when he was awarded ‘Britain’s Youngest Patron/Chef in 1981, a title which has never been superseded.

Steven went onto to buy his own business with his then wife Sally, ‘The Pink Geranium’ was launched in 1987 and Steven won ‘Young Chef of the Year’ in 1988 and ‘National Restaurant of the Year’ in 1991. He was also awarded the coveted Red Michelin M and Three AA rosettes for excellence.

In 1997 Steven acquired the stunning watermill Sheene Mill which he and his team converted into a modern brasserie earning the award of 'Most Fashionable Restaurant Outside of London' in 1998 by Conde Nast. He was awarded 'Business Person (East Anglia) of the Year' in 1998.

Steven has presented for a vast number of TV programmes over the years including launching BBC 2’s Ready Steady Cook, and regularly on ITV’s This Morning, BBC1’s Good Morning, Food and Drink, Good Food live, Saturday Kitchen, and many Sky TV programmes.

In 1999 Steven opened ‘Steven Saunders at the Lowry’ the magnificent multi million pound Millennium project which was opened officially by Her Majesty The Queen. The restaurant was voted 'Manchester’s Best Newcomer of the Year' in 2000 and 'Best City Restaurant' in 2001.

Steven has his own consultancy company and has consulted for The Ritz Hotel, The Burj Al Arab Dubai and for ‘Planet Organic’ food stores in London amongst others.

Steven has written 10 cookery books and had best sellers in Europe selling over 175,000 copies. He has written for trade journals, and for national magazines like Hello and OK, regularly. He is an ambassador for British Organic food and travels the world speaking passionately about his subject.

He went on to create the first catering company (Organica/Steven Saunders at Home) ever to achieve accreditation and the organic certification in Europe. The outside catering company offer his signature restaurant food in your own home.

Steven is patron of many charities including RSPB, McMillan’s Nurses, Born Free and the NSPCC. Steven was the man who launched the ‘Five a Day’ campaign for Children (before Jamie Oliver).

In 2005 Steven opened ‘Steven Saunders in Newmarket’ a high street oasis with distinctive elegant design and unique Simple Fresh Organic Food. The successful brand and concept has this year been adopted by Brocket Hall Golf Club, Nr. Welwyn where Steven is now Consultant Chef.

November 2006 sees the launch of what will be Steven’s most prolific and high profile restaurant venture to date, ‘Steven Saunders in Trafalgar Square’. The restaurant will feature the distinguishing design and offer the unique dining experience to an international audience.
